The Mighty Zulu Nation Theatre Company was inaugurated in the year 1982 under the directorship of Dr. Iain Storey. Over the past 41 years this company has afforded opportunities for young South Africans to follow creative pursuits ranging from grass roots to professional excellence.
The cast of professional performers are all multi talented and originate from the city of Durban, in the kingdom of Kwa-Zulu Natal. Our first tour undertaken to the UK was in 1997, since then we have toured extensively to theatres, festivals, and educational institutions throughout the UK.
This vibrant spectacle, showcases a kaleidoscope of dynamic Traditional Zulu Culture. The amazing voices, of the cast, with their brilliant harmony have delighted audiences throughout the world. The powerful traditional splendid dance sequences, accompanied by ‘pulsating’ Zulu drums, guarantees to hold any audience spellbound.
This show provides outstanding entertainment for the entire family with fun audience participation to make this a truly memorable experience . Besides our dynamic Festival Showcase Performance of vibrant cultural song and dance we also have a wide range of music and dance workshops for both children and adults.
The Mighty Zulu Nation Theatre Company has tailored a powerful educational experience that, through its Unique Cultural application of performance and workshops, successfully creates opportunity for community cohesion, Cultural diversity Awareness, Racial equality and Citizenship. The main motivation of the Project is to provide a unique cultural experience that merits the development of a creative foundation, designed to simulate individual integrity.
In particular we have developed a highly accredited multi-cultural hands-on experience that affords UK pupils the opportunity to experience the vibrant culture of the Zulu people.
Organisers of special events have invited us to perform on a myriad of occasions before audiences containing royalty and senior government officials.
The Mighty Zulu Nation Theatre Company were invited on two occasions to perform before HRH Queen Elizabeth II on Common Wealth Day at Westminster Abby. There were also three performances for Nelson Mandela and Arch Bishop Desmond Tutu. Guest Appearances include : The Common Wealth Games in Manchester and the Highland Games in the Isle of Lewis.
Festival performances have taken place In Germany, Sweden, Italy, Russia, Ireland, Belgium, Australia, Austria, France and the United Kingdom. Our performance in Serbia in collaboration with The Fundamentals was presented to an audience of 70,000.
We have toured Britain, Russia, Italy and South Africa with the theatre production Africa-Africa, a Musical of Traditional Zulu Cultural Vibrancy.
We also conduct an acclaimed multi cultural educational tour annually.
This Musical Mirrors the essence of the mighty Zulu Nation from The Kingdom of KwaZulu Natal.
Besides the dynamic visual impact of the performers as they weave a pattern of cultural intrigueis, the variety of songs and their contrast in style and technique provides for an entertaining kaleidoscope of splendid vocal harmony .
Along with the added dynamic dimension of the energetic Traditional Ngoma Dance Sequences, which is the real highlight of the show.
Our performers were also an integral part of the West End theatre show Napoleon Noir.
MZN Theatre Company deliver a most effective cross curricular, cultural diversity awareness programme. We have established over the years a long association with Education Action Zones, EIC, Creative Partnerships, Beacon Schools, Gifted and Talented, and LEA’s throughout the UK. Promoting a wide range of government initiatives ranging from Citizenship to Community Cohesion.
We also provide a unique corporate experience. Our performers help pour staff to improve communication skills as well as helping teambuilding through our entertaining drumming workshops. We are also able to put on performances for
